Compared with other structural materials, magnesium anodes have the following characteristics:
(l) The density of the magnesium anode is 23% of that of steel, 67% of that of aluminum, and 176% of that of plastic. It is the lightest metal among the metal structural materials. The yield strength of magnesium anode is roughly equal to that of aluminum alloy, only slightly lower than that of carbon steel, and is 4-5 times that of plastic. Its modulus of elasticity is much higher than that of plastic, more than 20 times. Therefore, in the same strength and stiffness, using magnesium anode as structural parts can greatly reduce the quality of parts, which is of great significance to aviation industry, automobile industry and portable electronic devices. It is reported that every 10% reduction in car mass can save 5% of fuel, which is of practical significance to save energy and reduce environmental pollution.
(2) Compared with aluminum alloy, steel and iron, magnesium anode has lower elastic modulus. Under the same stress condition, it can consume more deformation work, and has the function of noise reduction and vibration reduction. It can withstand larger impact vibration load.
(3) Magnesium anode has better casting and machining properties. The reaction speed of magnesium and iron is very low, iron orange vortex can be used in melting, the erosion of molten magnesium on orange pot is small, and the erosion of die casting die is small. Compared with aluminum alloy die casting, the service life of die casting die can be increased by 2-3 times, and usually can be maintained at more than 200,000 times. The minimum wall thickness of magnesium anode die casting can reach 0.6mm, while that of aluminum alloy is 1.2-1.5 mm. The latent heat of crystallization of magnesium is smaller than that of aluminum, and the production rate of magnesium is 40%-50% higher than that of aluminum die casting. Up to twice as much. Magnesium anode has very good machinability. It has very low cutting tool consumption and very little cutting consumption function. The power ratio of magnesium anode, aluminum alloy, cast iron and low alloy steel in cutting the same part is: L :1.8, 3.5:6.3.
(4) Magnesium anode has good electromagnetic shielding performance and thermal conductivity, which is suitable for the shell and cover of electronic products emitting electromagnetic interference, especially the shell of mobile phone close to the human body. Magnesium anode has the same non-spark property as aluminum, copper and other non-ferrous metals, so it is suitable for mining equipment and powder operation equipment. The surface of magnesium anode has non-adhesion, which is suitable for moving devices in ice, snow and dust. Magnesium anode has good wear resistance and is suitable for winding and sliding equipment.
(5) Magnesium anodes have high dimensional stability and stable shrinkage rate, high dimensional accuracy of castings and machining parts, except Mg - Al - Zn alloy, most magnesium anodes in the heat treatment process and long-term use due to phase change caused by close to zero, suitable for template, fixture and electronic products cover.
(6) The chemical activity of magnesium is very strong, and it is easy to oxidize in the air, especially at high temperature. If the heat released by the oxidation reaction cannot be timely divergent, it is easy to cause combustion. Therefore, measures should be taken to prevent oxidation when melting the magnesium anode. The density of magnesium oxide film is less than that of the matrix metal, so it is loose and porous, far less solid and dense than the oxide film on the surface of aluminum alloy, so it has no obvious protective effect. The electrode potential of magnesium is very low, and the electrochemical order is the last among the commonly used metals, so the corrosion resistance of magnesium is poor. Magnesium is relatively stable in dry and hydrofluoric acid, chromic acid, mineral oil (such as gasoline, kerosene) and alkaline media, and can be used for oil pipelines. In the humid atmosphere, fresh water, sea water and most of the acid, salt solution is easy to corrosion, so in the production, processing, storage and use of magnesium anode, the surface should take appropriate protective measures, such as surface oxidation treatment or paint. Magnesium anodes are prone to contact corrosion when in contact with other metals, except Al Mg alloy, so magnesium anodes should be used only in contact with insulating materials, or with Chuan Mg alloy (such as 5052) as its gasket, to prevent its electrochemical corrosion.
Because magnesium has a low electrode potential, it can be used as a sacrificial anode to protect other metal objects from electrochemical corrosion.
(7) The magnesium anode is more sensitive to the notch, which is easy to cause stress concentration. The creep resistance of most magnesium anodes is poor at high temperature above 125℃, which should be considered when selecting materials and designing parts.
(8) Recyclable. Compared with plastic materials, magnesium anode is recyclable. It is beneficial to reduce the cost of products, save resources and improve the environment.
